Laying a patio without buying slabs

by Nik Will » Wed May 27, 2009 1:28 pm

Hi, I am hoping to replace my rather tired patio, with a newer smart looking natural slate effect patio. However the slabs that look like what i require are very pricey.
Somebody suggested that i make my own using dyed concrete, and a shuttering grid.
How easy is this, and where can i find the products that i need? I have bought some moulds. however i only bought 5 (for about £25.00) and i worked out that it would take me an absolute age to manufacture enough slabs to complete the project.
Any advice???

hello,
have you tried to "pressure wash" your existing slabs ?
*
hire the washer
add bio-detergent / or sprinkle from a watering can
~
point nozzle, pull trigger,
do small section at a time.
draw nozzle left to right and return across each section,
then repeat from back to front.
~
hey-presto 1 new patio !
~
try on a small section first !
allow detergent from watering can to soak in for a couple of minutes before cleaning off.
*
caution !
if your slabs are soft sandstone use a brush instead of the jet-washer. :)
