Laying Quarry Tiles on new Concrete for Hearth

by Ldivall » Wed Jun 05, 2019 6:59 am

Hi Folks,

I’ve recently opened up a chimney breast and the floor level in the opening was lower than the floor to the rest of the room. I’ve laid some concrete to bring it up to level (about 2 inches worth) and I’m planning to build a hearth using reclaimed quarry tiles.

I’m planning on laying the tiles using mortar as that’s what I’ve read is commonly done, but I’m wondering if I have to wait for the concrete to cure first?

Basically wondering if it’s ok to lay mortar and quarry tiles on recently laid concrete or not. Most of what would be laid on the new concrete won’t be seen as there’ll be a fireplace going in, but I want to make sure I do a good job!

Thanks,

Luke
