Lighting Circuit Problem

Post by stuartb73 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:32 am

I have just changed a light fitting in my bathroom and although it works fine when it is turned on the remaining 3 lights (one in each bedroom) go dead, when the new light is off the remaining 3 lights works fine. Anybody have any idea why the remaining circuit is being disabled when the swich is on? thanks

Correct circuit
L___/ _____@_____ _____N
_/ _____@_____
_/ _____@_____

Your circuit
L___/ __________@____N
__/ ___@___
__/ ___@___

You have the switch return and neutrals mixed up. Often both black the switch return should have red tape or sleeve on it but it often falls off.

Only a guess of course but most likely

Yours Eric
