Linking Lights in Hallway onto Same Switch

by Gsenior » Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:23 am

I have a hallway with a light at either end. Each light is operated by its own switch- i.e. Light A operated by Switch A, Light B operated by Switch B.

How do I like the two lights together so that:

Switch A turns off/on Light A and Light B together

Switch B also turns off/on Light A and Light B together

How do I do this?

Hi, it is easier said than done (Most jobs are)

I will not go into exact detail yet as it is up to you to add the new cables first.

Below is what you need to do.

Run a 1.mm Twin and earth from Light A to light B
Run a 1mm 3 core and earth from Light switch A to Light switch B
Buy 2 new light switches, each must be 1 gang 2 way.
Buy some WAGO connectors
Buy a Multi meter learn how to use it

Running in the cables, lifting the floorboards, chasing in the cables to the wall is the hard part.

Sadly there is no short cut, the cables you already have will not do the job you require, hence install new cables, change the switches.
