Loft conversion - is this timber likely structural?

Postby ar94 » Thu Jul 14, 2022 3:44 pm

Hi,

Thinking of making our already converted loft (victorian terrace house) into a larger space by removing the side walls. Can anyone advise if the highlighted timber in the photo is likely to be structural or if these walls can be removed without having to reinforce it? I've attached a photo from inside the room for reference.

Thanks in advance

Hi ar94.
It looks like the uprights are supporting the purlin which is supporting the mid-span of your rafters. So the answer is yes they are structural and no you should not remove them - get advice from a structural engineer.
