I'm looking to suspend a tube/bar from my upper floor where there are two walls (of the stairs) that are 114cm apart. I've looked on eBay and a proper solid bar from 304 grade stainless steel of 35mm on 1500mm costs roughly £100. That's a lot of money. I found a few websites that sell tubes in different thicknesses and I don't know which and what is strong enough. If the diametre is 35mm and the length is 1500mm, will a 1,5mm thick tube be strong enough or do I need it to be thicker? There is also the problem that it must be rust resistant and absolutely perfectly smooth which is not easy to find!
