Lower manhole for recess cover

Postby lukewilkinson » Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:34 am

I am starting to dig down to lay a patio, the plan was to use a manhole recess cover instead of the ugly cover. I have noticed the current cover is higher than the level the patio will be. I can remove the actual lid but it seems the rest of it is part of the actual inspection chamber. Ideally it would be lowered but if this isn’t possible what other options do I have?

Hi lukewilkinson,
The chamber may be made up of a number of interlocking rings so you may be able to remove one ring. If this is not possible cut round the chamber using an angle grinder to reduce its height.
