Metal Door Frames With Built in Hinges

by denboyo » Sat Dec 14, 2013 12:03 am

Hi, I have just moved into a new property, and have started decorating and want to change internal doors. The existing door frames appear to be box metal, with the door hinge built in.Does anyone have experience of these frames, and if so how can I hang new doors without having to replace the frames??

Hi there,
I have come across these types of door frames before. The hinges are usually on a slip pin and also called rising butts. You should be able to remove one of the hinge flanges and use that to mark and fit the hinge flange to your new door. Then slide the door into place back on the rising butts.

Having said that it might make it easier if i had a picture to give me the full story and I could probably advise further if needed.

hope this helps

Regards.
