moisture on quarry tiled floor

by captain_civilian » Mon Jan 28, 2008 7:37 pm

I have a quarry tiled living room floor in an old property that I am renovating. As I have resumed work on the room I've noticed that where I've had sheet of plastic laying on the floor there is a dark, slightly moist patch beneath. This is accompanied by an earthy smell.
I really, really do not want to lift the floor and have thought of applying a couple coats of damp proof paint followed by a d.p.c before I lay laminate flooring.
I'm unsure if this would rectify the problem and any advice would be great.
I really don't wan't to get that floor up.
