Monobloc mixer tap "washer"? to stop crushing worktop.

Post by Simon B » Mon Jun 29, 2020 3:51 pm

Hi, I have a Mixer tap in Kitchen which has been tightened several times and is crushing the worktop. Does anyone know if there's a washer or something i can fit between tap base and worktop, which is wide enough so that when I tighten it sufficiently it won't damage the wooden worktop any further.
I've no idea of make and model of tap but its pretty standard, 2 flexi connectors with 2 tightening screws underneath. any help greatly appreciated as cant afford to replace worktop. Thanks.

Hi Simone
Some mono block taps have a decorative ring that enlarges the base, you may be able to find one of these.
The fact that your worktop is going soft indicates that water is getting in. In the end you may have to fit a deck pattern tap to overcome this problem and hide the existing hole.

Thanks Stoneyboy, looking at it underneath it does look like water has got in. Cheers for the advice on the deck pattern tap, may have to do this until i can afford to replace worktop.
