New Fireplace but it's Smoking out Room Although Chimney all ok

by aliaberdeen » Mon Mar 27, 2017 12:00 pm

I'm hoping you can help. I recently had a fireplace installed (removed an old gas fire and refurbished the old granite brick) and it uses a fire basket, however each time I have used it the smoke from the fire fills up the room rather than going out through the chimney. Its really unbearable to sit in the room and it sets off the fire alarm in our house. I've had a chimney sweep round to take a look but he said the chimney was all fine and nothing was blocking it.

So i think we need to make an adjustment to the fireplace. We think maybe the fireplace opening is too big? I've attached an image of the fireplace for your reference.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any idea how to fix this problem?

Many thanks!

you will need to create a throat for the smoke this will draw the air up the chimney, you can buy a fireback and throat from your local builders merchant, or you can build a brick fireback https://youtu.be/FKycKB0Ww9k
