New Paint Cracked When Going Over Filler

by Simon343 » Thu Apr 30, 2020 1:41 pm

Cracked Paint1.jpg
Just repainted a bedroom in Dulux pure brilliant white matt. Most of the room is fine but in a couple of areas where I have filled cracks with Wickes premixed filler and sanded flat the white paint has cracked and looks like dried mud. I’m guessing that either the filler or sanded plaster has dried the paint out to fast? I can scrape and sand down these areas again. Any recommendations for how I can paint these bits and avoid the same problem again please? Interestingly I used the same filler but Crown paint in another room and didn’t have this issue.

Hi simon343,
Suggest you sand back to remove flaked paint, apply 1 or 2 coats of a thinned emulsion mix, then reapply your finish coat(s).
