New shower & tiles. Should tiles and grout be sealed?

by jackhulk » Thu Sep 04, 2008 3:45 pm

Hello

I've literally just had my shower and tiles installation completed but have only just found out about tile and grout sealing (the workmen never mentioned this).

I've been googling on this subject for the past hour or so and there seems to be a divided opinion on weather it’s worth it or not. Some say it is because it’s water resistant and helps prevent mildew etc. Others disagree as they warn that it could discolour the grout.

I would like to hear from you pro's weather or not I should seal both tiles and grout or not at all please?

Thank you

depends entirely on the quality of the grout used. if good quality, suitable for showers and impregnated with microban (to prevent mildew) then additional sealing should not be necessary.
