Newel Disaster

by fattony » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:28 pm

Well I was trying to fix the wobble in the banister and found the newels were not glued to the newel base, just a few small screws, so I removed the screws poured glue into the newel base and re fitted the newel with 3 inch screws.

This work fine for 2 of the newels but the 3rd was I noticed a split in the newel base, as I took the screws out the split became bigger and as the newel came out a chunk of the newel base came with it :( wtf am I going to do with it now?

This is what Im left with

You can see the newel used to slot into the newel base, can I buy a new new base, cut out the old base and bolt the new newel to the large joists running next to it? If not wtf can I do?
