No heating without hot water

Can't get my heating to work independantly, have to have hot water on. Just bought a new hortsman programmer but no joy. Any advise please

Hi,

Could do with more info on system, if system boiler prolly motorised valve.

Some old systems require the hot water to be on before the heating will operate.
