Noise when taps turn on and off

by ritam » Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:20 pm

I have just had a new combi condensor boiler(Bosch Worcester) fitted with one important aim which was to make the sound of the system inside the house quieter than it was with the old water tank and hot water cylinder. However since being installed there has been one loud clanking noise from each tap when it is turned on which sounds all around the house. This noise starts as the water first comes out of the tap but doesnt continue. Then clanks again when tap is turned off.The gas boiler installers have returned and agree that it is very loud and annoying in the bedroom next to the bathroom and over the kitchen, especially when the taps are used for short periods such as handwashing or washing out a couple of cups. They suggested that there may be an unsecured pipe in the system but couldn't find it or that the water pressure could be too high-it certainly does come out of the cold taps strongly. Can anyone help please.

Exactly as they've said, check pipes are clipped/supported lagged where necessary, not touching each other.

Also try closing the mains cold water stop tap until the noise stops - or until you think you have an adequate supply of water to all taps.
This normally solves the problem
