Outside Socket

by Stillia » Mon Jul 13, 2009 7:08 pm

Hi there,

Fitted a double outside socket with integral RCD protection (spurred off ring main) & one of the sockets is not working, whilst other is fine. Checked with socket & see and indicates a neutral fault, so reterminated neutral & still showin same fault. Am I right in thinking that the unit is faulty??

Thanks, Andy.

You can test the circuit is healthy by following test test procedures in guidance note 3 or the on-site guide.
Can't say for sure if you have a faulty accessory, circuit or test instrument.
but likely to be accessory by what you have stated.
Has this socket been installed be electrician or you, take a look on part p projects pages on this site.
I would have used an RCD protected spur at ring main as the additional cable that you have terminated is not RCD protected the way you have done it is likely not to comply to requirements.

only one set of terminals internally linked (or in this case , not) so unit must be faulty,
usual part P comments apply as any work outside house is notifiable as KB says,
