Painting and papering new plastered walls

Post by Blunny » Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:14 pm

I am currently helping my parents redecorate their front room which had the walls skimmed with plaster a week ago. I know normally, it is best to wait for 4 weeks or so to let the plastered walls dry completely before papering or painting over but I was hoping someone could give me an idea how long to wait as it has only had 3-4mm of plaster applied, apart from the visual drying out appearance. I would like to start painting this weekend coming so any help or replies will be much appreciated.

Blunny,
You shouldn't have any problems applying a well watered down emulsion base coat this weekend.

usually once dry to view it should be ok to paint paper. if you were tiling on it i'd advise to wait.

the main issue is calcification/crystalisation that would ruin any finish that would be applied (and cause tiles to fall off).

if you need to get on and do it and it is dry, personally i'd risk it.
