part chimmey removal

can any advise me on if it is sound for me to part remove a down stairs chimmey breast which is about 1.2 in length and around 300 in depth and i won't to remove about 10 inches of the side to allow more room, can i install a gallow between the foor to the up stairs to surpport the rest of the stack

Get a surveyor in to check what you want to do - forum members will not be able to advise you from your description.

I think you are asking for trouble frankly.

Get yourself some first-hand (ie someone comes and looks at it) structural advice.
