I'v just started to strip a bedroom wall and one wall wobbles. My house is approx 120 years old and built of solid stone, the walls were lined with plasterboard by a previous owner. There is a small possibility that insulation was put in but, I don't know. The plasterboard has been skimmed and looks fine. My first thought was to go along the wall and countersink some hammer fix screws as I've no idea where the batons are, if any. Would this work or, is there something better I can use? Advice please :)

Hi saljia,
Possibly best to determine what is behind the plasterboard. Use a small sabre saw to cut a hole in the board - taper the edges so you can stick the cutout back in place. You can then decide whether to fix into battens - if they exist - or whether you need longer screws to fix into the masonry wall.

Thanks Stoneyboy, I had thought of just making a hole but wouldn't have thought to taper it. I think it will be old bricks and stones if it's anything like the chimney I had removed a few years ago. Off to Amazon for a sabre saw, thanks again.
