Hi there;

Many ways to do this really depends on how "heavy" is the work going on, the likelihood of damage and how much protection do you want to give the door;

1. Remove door from the frame and store in area of house not affected by
the works. The open frame can be sheeted up to prevent dust from
entering

2. Keep door in place and wrap in old blanket, bubble wrap or foam packing.
these can all be secured with gaffer or heavy duty parcel tape. If you
wrap the door in the closed position and keep packing within the area of
the door frame then the door will still open and close so keep down dust
and maintain access

3. As above with the door closed but measure and cut 2 sheets of hardboard
cutting out around the door handles. Again fix with heavy duty tape,
wrapping around the door and boards both vertically and horizontally
to keep in place - this will give a high level of protection

Good luck with the construction works
