Pulling up portion of large bricked drive to add greenery to

by eurobabe » Thu Jun 21, 2007 2:18 pm

We have a bricked front drive across the full width of the house and wide enough to pull in four cars or vans perpendicular to the road. We just want to park two normal family cars so are pulling out an island aginst the road in the middle area to plant a tree and shrubs. We will then pull cars round from each direction behind semi circular "tree island". Are there any guidances on driveway clearances - I mean how wide generally we should leave the pull in areas. Don't want to pull out too many bricks but need to do it at one go for rotivating and planting!

The best thing you can do is use one of the cars to do what you want and mark a sensible line with chalk. The standard widths given etc do not take domestic situations into account they are produced for blocks of flats and car parks.
