hi i have a recently built garage with an up and over garage door the fixings for this eats into the overhead space which i would now like to turn into a decent loft the easy answer is replace the door lower the ceiling to get more space overhead but i would like to put in some large velux windows and some extra headroom in the loft as i will probably turn it into a self contained unit.i wanted to know if there was a possible way to seperate the roof from the walls and just build on 2 or 3 rows of blocks and sit the roof back on perhaps using jacks of some description ???
morespace, You would need to remove all the roof tiles first and then jack up using acrows bolted to the walls - if it's a single garage 6 acrows with spreader plates on top of them should be adequate. I'm assuming you have a wall plate holding all the rafters together and there are 3 complete walls tied together. end
