Re-instating a fireplace from a gas back boiler

by nickwells » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:18 am

My house is was built in 1950 and had a gas fire/back boiler.
I have removed the old gas back boiler and I want to re-instate the fireplace to burn solid fuel.

I assume i need to have the flue pipe removed and the chimney swept, tested and a pot fitted.

The hearth and surround are intact but the there is no fire back, just a big open hole where the boiler was.

Can i just install a grate or do i need the fireplace rebuilt?
