Removing Built-in TV Cabinet Ourselves or get a Professional in

Postby ljrc » Sat Dec 29, 2018 1:31 pm

We are looking for advice on whether we can remove the below ourselves or require professional help?

We recently moved-in to a new house and would like to remove a built-in TV cabinet in the living room which the previous owners made themselves.

The cabinet currently covers part of the living room floor which we would like to re-carpet, including the area where the cabinet currently is. We then plan to mount the TV onto the alcove wall with an extendable TV bracket.

Our concerns are whether there are gas pipes (there is a gas fire to the left of the cabinet in the living room) or other wiring/piping which would make laying a new carpet difficult.

There is also a hole in the wall which leads to our under-stairs storage which I will need to fix.

Any help/advice with the above would be greatly appreciated.

I was unable to upload images even after compressing the file size but I am happy to email these through to you if you need me to.

Thank you

Hi all, apologies, I managed to upload the images. Please see attached!

This is a portion of missing skirting to the left of the cabinet as you look at it. To the left of this area is a gas fire. On the picture I THINK you can see a gas pipe

This is the gap in the wall around the plug socket which I need to fix (this wall is an internal wall and the hole leads to our under stairs storage

This is looking into the Cabinet through the gap which is visible in the first picture (where the router and TV box are kept).
