Removing Silicone sealant from brickwork

Post by herbie53 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:33 pm

Does anyone have any advice about removing silicone sealant from rough brickwork.
We have recently had a new front door fitted and the old silicone that was around the surround which was also removed won't come off. We have tried brushing with a wire brush but this is damaging the brickwork and not removing any of the silicone. The original door was fitted in 1979 when the property was built.
Any ideas
