Rendering a Wall of Engineering Bricks?

by andyste1 » Tue Oct 23, 2018 1:13 pm

Hi, we have some low (14") retaining walls in the garden built around 10 years ago from engineering bricks. They are fairly ugly so I have been wondering if they could be rendered, or does the type of brick make this too difficult?

The walls won't have been "sealed" in any way either (bitumen, or whatever on the soil side) so would this cause further problems if rendered?

If rendering isn't possible, is painting another option or would I have similar issues with that?

You would have problems with going over the sealer. They sell a wire mesh that you screw to the wall 1st & then you render on top of this. It works well.
