Replacing old Cylinder Night Latch on Front Door

by icogs » Sat Jan 26, 2019 12:36 pm

The night latch on my front door needs replacing. It seems they come in two standard sizes: 40mm or 60mm backset (distance from centre of the cylinder to edge of the door). However, when I measure the existing one it is 38mm, or more likely 1.5 inches which is 38.1mm. Am I going to be able to use a 40mm backset, or am I out of luck? I know the existing cylinder hole is compatible with current cylinders as I have successfully replaced that in the last few years, so it is the locating of the main body which would be the issue I think.
