Replacing Skirtingboard but Keeping Existing Carpets

Post by bob_mcbob » Mon Apr 24, 2017 11:44 am

I have had a good look around and when people are discussing replacing skirting board, this is usually in relation to laminate or refurbishments, so have nothing on the floor yet.

My question...

I may change my architrave and also skirting board, however most of my rooms are carpeted, and the carpet is in decent condition so i want to keep it.

Am i able to change my skirting boards without having to lift the carpet? Once lifted I know carpets don't go down the same again. I know the carpet is secured by grippers, so my plan would be to rip the skirting board off, and lift the carpet back to the grippers then put new skirting on and tuck the carpet under again? Is that sensible/doable?

thanks
