I used to have an old baxi back boiler sitting in an old chimney breast. I installed a combi boiler in the kitchen and the old baxi was removed including small dwarf walls at either side of it(these were for keeping it in position with regulations etc.) When i took away the bricks and studded plasterboard on front of it there is now a large original fireplace left. I have bought one of these cast iron inserts which houses the whole fire with damper etc. The only problem is the existing fireplace does not come right out flush so i can mount the insert straight against stone. Some of the sides and top lintl part are missing, i can see right up the chimney which is lined. What do i need to do to get this fireplace fit for purpose and do i need fireproof cement etc?
