I've just removed painted woodchip from hall ceiling. It appears to have been newly plastered underneath!!
Now left with bits of paint, pitholes, and if possible want to avoid replastering.
Is there a product available which can be applied and then smoothed over? before repainting.
Or is a case of endless sanding - or expensive plastering?
I obviously can't see it but from your description it sounds bad.
Add up your time to be spent on remedial work (and it will never look perfect no matter how hard you try) and compare that with half a day for a plasterer to skim. How big is the area? Expect to pay £ 150 - £ 180 for (say) 4 square metres.
