Sliding Patio Door Closed Button and Locking Problem

by frankc » Mon Feb 26, 2018 12:10 pm

I have a sliding patio door to lock it you obviously close it. Lift the handle to raise the 4 catches/snibs?. Turn the key. Door locked.

Last night I went to lock it. Handle would not lift or even move. Key would not turn. Had to leave door unlocked all night.

This morning I examined the door and found a tiny metal 'button' type thing. When the door shuts this bit of metal slides inwards. Tells the door its shut and allows you to raise the handle and turn the key. When its pushed it the door is working 100%.

To fix the problem I fixed a tiny bit of foam to the door frame to ensure the 'button' pushes inward when the door shuts. However this seems like a bodge to me and would like to fix it properly. Noting looks adjustable on the frame and there are lots to adjust on the door itself.

Suggestions please? Thanks in advance
