Smoke Test Through Air Vent For Open Solid Fuel Fire

by NutcaseOReilly » Wed Jan 11, 2017 6:37 pm

Apologies if this is the wrong forum but couldn't see where else would be appropriate - and thought someone here might know.

We had a gas fire removed years ago, the supply capped and the fireplace plastered up with a vent fitted.

We now want to install an open solid fuel fire, but want to smoke Test the chimney before we knock through the wall - if the chimney needs re-lining, we'd have to wait a few more months until we can afford the extra work, but wouldn't want a gaping hole there whilst we wait. Picture attached of the wall now, and what's behind, including up the chimney.

Any advice gratefully received!
