Sockets on skirting boards

by gasypete » Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:52 pm

Hi
I am looking at buying a flat and wondered if the sockets that are fixed to the skirting boards are acceptable. or should they be moved.
Thanks.

Hi Gasypete

You should get them moved, for a variety of reasons. E.g., on the skirting they are more likely to be damaged.

Also higher up is better for access. Some modern appliances cannot be plugged in when the sockets are on the skirting, or the flex is bent back a lot. I'm moving all of mine, as I decorate room by room.

If you were building a new flat it would have to be 45 cm off the floor.

Might be worth getting the wiring checked, if it is still on the skirting, it may have old wiring.

Regards

Mister G
