Sound Deaden and Proofing a Basement

by Dibbley » Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:32 pm

I'm in the process of redoing my basement, I've ripped everything out back to timber stud/brick. And opened up two rooms as one large room.
I have to drop the ceiling by 40mm due to previous plumbing.

I'd like to help prevent sound getting from the basement upto the living room/kitchen above. I was thinking of using a layer of sound deadening board, then a layer of normal plaster board ontop of that.

My questions are:

Is the 2 board combo any good?

I'm debating whether to go with 40-60mm cellotex boards or rockwool. Or boards for the walls and rockwool in the ceiling?
Or any other advice which I am missing?

Thanks.
