spigot/reducer

got gas being put in existing fire place had to temp remove some bricks so fitter done smoke test claims smoke comming out of holes in steel lentil but if theres a spiggot and its all seales from fire to flue liner and no leaks anywhere else that shouldnt matter shouldnt matter as everthing will got straight up spiggot out of chimmney right or wrong as to remove this metal lentil is gonna mean taking down the whole chimmney breast and should the spiggott be fitted first then the fire screwed up to it can anyone please advice me as im at me witts end now as there was a gas fire there previous for the last six years weve lived here so in theory if there was leaks its poss we wouldnt still be living

You don't seal a gas fire to the flue liner - so no not ok.
