Stair noise through party wall

by wyldereaches » Sun May 02, 2010 7:35 pm

Hello, I live in a semi-detached Victorian house built around 1900 and I have a specific noise issue to address.

The houses are joined by the hallway and stairs. The worst of the noise is on the stairs from ground to first floor, but the problem also exists on the stairs from the first floor to second.

The specific problem is children next door thumping up and down the stairs.

From what I have read I doubt if wall soundproofing products alone would do much to reduce the noise.

Does anyone have knowledge of how to solve this problem? The best solution is to buy detached, I know, but until I can achieve that I need to reduce this nuisance as much as possible.

Many thanks.
