steel beams and brick pillar foundations

Post by alirus » Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:02 pm

We're thinking of buying a detached 1930s property built on a slope. It has an unconverted cellar where you can see steel beams as well as a no of brick pillars. Are steel beams a normal foundation or do they indicate previous problems with subsidence, etc?
