SUSPENDED TIMBER FLOOR CONSTRUCTION

by DAVE -C » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:13 am

WITH A MAXIMUM JOIST 'SPAN' (ie. BETWEEN SUPPORTING 'WALLPLATES') OF ONE AND A HALF METRES AND WITH JOISTS SPACED AT CENTRES OF 400mm, WOULD JOIST DIMENSIONS OF 75mm X 75mm BE OK (assuming a dead load of not more than 0.50 and an imposed load of not more than 1.5kn/sqm.?
(I HAVE SEEN VARIOUS TABLES THAT FOCUS ON SPANS/SPACING etc BUT MY PRIMARY CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS THE DEPTH/WIDTH OF THE JOIST ITSELF IN RELATION TO THE PROPOSED SPAN/SPACING ABOVE).

See our project on floor joist spans, the building regulation table is in there for size of floor joist for a given spacing for a given length.
