Swing Hinge for Panel Effect Doors and how to Open them Laterally

by craigck » Sun Dec 13, 2015 2:37 pm

Hi,

I want to apply panel effect wood to make a feature wall, there is also a set of (MDF) doors, flush with the wall. The issue I have is if I apply the horizontal panel lengths the doors will not open with normal hinges. I need the doors to open in a lateral direction, before they swing open. Any ideas please?

Thank you in advance.

Take the doors and frame out, add a new frame which is the same finished width as the new wall and rehang doors in the correct position to open properly. If it were only one door you could use extended, offset or "wide throw" hinges but with a pair of doors these would possibly bind when you tried to open.

You could also bring the doors to the face of the new panelling with butterly hinges fitted to the face of the doors and directly onto the panelling.
