Tiling chimney breast with split face tiles

Postby johnnyc62 » Wed Aug 24, 2022 1:00 pm

Hello, I'd like to tile my living room chimney breast using split face tiles. I've worked out that the weight of the tiles including the adhesive will be 35kg-40kg per square metre. My chimney breast has been plastered using Gypsum multi finish. Their guidelines say the plaster can only support weight of upto 20kg per square metre. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what I could do to be able to do the tiling using the tiles I want? One thought I had was taking the plaster off and getting the chimney breast back to the brick work. Then applying cement rendering and then tiling onto that. I'm not sure if that will work though or if there are better options

Hi johnnyc62,
Remove the plaster, wire brush the bricks, apply a bonding agent and tile direct onto the brickwork.
