We have a timed fan in the bathroom which is linked to light switch. there is also an isolator switch. The fan turns off about 10mins after light is turned off.
Problem: Recently the fan stopped working properly. It lasts for about 6 minutes then conks out - makes noise as if it is trying to go but rotates at a snails pace.
our block of flats are about 3 years old. 6 other flats have the same problem.
Anyone got any ideas/experience of what the problem is? is it easy to fix? is there a maintenance regime we can follow to prevent problem in future?
Hi Mark, it's knackered! cheap fans only good for abt 3 years, bushes on shaft dry out, rust, then when running warm up & almost sieze.
I have taken them out, cleaned, lubed, replaced, last a few months.
budget for replacement every 3-4 years ,sorry that's life of modern kit,
regards SPARX
Thanks for that. The fans are made by Electromecanicas MC, SA (Spain) and they seem quite sturdy. They are centrifugal fans serial number RF2C-133/046 K010.

Do you still think they only last 3-4 years? If so, i guess it is just a question of replacing whole unit - that shouldn't be too difficult should it?
