Toilet cistern float defect?

Postby mth » Mon Dec 12, 2022 9:55 am

Hi all,

I have a typical dual flush top button toilet with external cistern. For a while now, the toilet started for no obvious reason to continue flushing water after the regular flush. When the lid if off, I can clearly see that the water fills for quite a while so high that it flows into the overflow pipe.
I tried adjusting the screw of the floater, but the behaviour is not what I expected:
- I need to do several turns to lift the arm of the floater enough so that the water level fills only up to about an inch below the overflow pipe (the arm is slightly pointing up then compared to being level with the horizon)
- However, when I flush then, it doesn't fill up at all anymore
- I then need to turn the screw of the float the other way around until it points slightly down, to hear the water rushing in again

So I can only keep the water at the right level when I adjust the float while it is refilling. But after a second flush, it will not refill again. To make it refill means to make it overflow again.

Any idea what the defect is and if it can be fixed?

Many thanks
mth
