Hi, first post here, and a novice DIYer to boot, so please bear with me!
We have just bought and moved into our first house, 1900s semi in good nick, but in need of decorating. One of the bits that needs sorting is the dark oragne tongue and groove panelling that covers the living room ceiling, it's just hideous and has to go. Can you suggest the best way to remove it, other than carefully?

Yes - just that lest you damage whatever is above it. Of course it may just have been put up there to disguise that fact that the celing fell down previously.
