Tumble dryer heater

My daughters hoover tumble dryer has stopped heating, how do I determine whether the thermostat has packed up? Is there some way to test it, other than just sticking a new one in?

alanandlyn,
Disconnect the leads to it and use a test meter to see if it is permanently on open circuit. Do unplug the dryer before opeing it up.
