Made the fatal mistake of not taking a picture of how my ceiling rose was wired before replacing it!!!

Anyway, what is puzzling me is I have two standard grey sheathed cables each with live, neutral and earth. The only other wires I have is a red (which looks like it is double insulated) and a green that are obviously related as their insulation casings are stuck together (apart from the last couple of inches where they have been prised apart). Is this live and earth? If so, what has happened to the neutral cable? Ideally I do not want to have to rip the floor up to work it all out.

What is also puzzling me is I have put a multimeter on both pairs of red and black cables to see if any are the switched cable. One pair always shows no resistance (indicating a complete circuit). The other pair shows 1 (indicating an incomplete circuit) even when I switch both of the switches.

I have thrown in a couple of diagrams that may help.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Ade

Hi Ade,
I think you need to have a look at these projects:
1. Wiring a Ceiling Rose: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/ceilingrose.htm
2. Switches and Ceiling Roses: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/li ... itches.htm
3. Wiring Colours: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/wirecolours.htm

Should give you a good start, but come back if you need more.
