Underfloor Heating Fault Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

I had electric underfloor heating installed in my kitchen 6 months ago. It stopped working recently. An electrician came round and between speaking to him and the technical dept of the company that supplied the heating mat i have been advised there's a break in the cable. I've heard this can be pin pointed to one tile, so as not to remove the whole floor covering. However i don't seem to be able to find a company that can do this. Can anybody recommend a company?

Hi, there are ways of measuring the distance from the end of wire the break is by injecting a high frequency signal but it only helps if you know exact route of mat wiring.
Putting a tone trace is possible but as cables have to be encased in earthed screening it's not easy to pick up.
My experience has been that most faults occur at cable ends due to strain on 'tails' coming out of floor, sorry don't know any 'specialists' good luck
