Using a car body filler (Upol) as a crack filler and wood filler

Postby Mikey66 » Fri Sep 30, 2022 9:04 pm

I recently had a builder who i got to do some crack filling in an outside wall and i noticed he was using a two part car body filler and he assured me that it is the best crack filler to use as they are all similar to each other He also smoothed out a stone step that was badly chipped Now i am worrying that this may fail in the coming years, I must say it made a nice smooth finish but as i said i am worried about the long term. Has anyone known this as a filler before as it is a new one on me. Thanks

Hi mikey66,
If the epoxy filler has even used on the wearing surface of the step it will not last because it is a soft material (compared to a paving slab).
Presumably the wall is rendered and in common with all filled crack repairs the cracks will reform. Time will tell whether the epoxy filler will fare better than other crack fillers - please keep us posted.
