using cantilever hinge bit

by cam58 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:11 pm

I just bought a Bosch cantilever hinge bit to make a recess in my cabinet door. The bit wasn't cheap and I thought it would be straight forward to use. Even after drilling a small pilot hole the bit travels and rips the wood. It's made a mess of the door. Is there a knack to using this tool as it didn't come with any instructions? All I want to do is re hang my door to my integrated washing machine. (New washer hence relocation of hinges) Not sure whether to take it back and ask for my £22 back as I didn't expect the result I got!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cam58,
This bit does not need a pilot hole it is self centering.
Whatever drill you are using push down in line with the drill spindle or it will move sideways.
You'll get best results if you use a pillar drill.
