Water Based Wood Paint That Does'nt Peel off With Masking Tape

Post by keetrab » Sat Sep 07, 2019 1:26 pm

Hello everyone,

Any chance someone could recommend not smelly good water based wood paint that does not come off with masking tape? I have experienced dried and cured water based paint coming off with masking tape when taped up skirting boards to paint walls above the skirtings. Do not wan't to use oil based paint due to strong smell and our baby being around.

Good recommendation will be highly appreciated.

This could be because the paint has not keyed to the old finish.
Are you rubbing down with abrasive paper and degreasing before applying the water based paint. If going over old oil based paint it may be beneficial to coat first with a water based high adhesion primer/undercoat like Bullseye123.
I also tend to use quality low tack masking tape for everything.
